Public administration calls for a deep sense of responsibility and organization, foresight, leadership and a way with people. It also requires a steep grounding in accounting and management. In municipal and state governments, public administration means running programs on a multitude of concerns such as health, highway, fire, police, water, transportation, electricity, gas, care of parks and recreation facilities, development of natural resources, public housing and urban renewal. A public administrator sees to the proper staffing pattern for sanitation services, clerical and maintenance connected with the above functions. You will never find a more edifying set of challenges in other careers or professions where self-interest is the chief motivation for work.

What to Write? à à à à à Do you recall the last 500-word essay you had to write? Or perhaps the last 500- word essay you had to read? As a teacher, Paul Roberts spent a large portion of his time reading 500-word essays. Paul Roberts found these compositions were uninspired, and done in the last possible minute. Paul Roberts wrote three books to aid you in becoming better writer. ââ¬Å"How to Say Nothing in 500 Wordsâ⬠comes from Robertsââ¬â¢ best-known book, Understanding English. ââ¬Å"How to Say Nothing in 500 Wordsâ⬠aids you by suggesting what not to say. This exert from Understanding English has 10 mistakes, and possible ways to avoid these mistakes. à à à à à The first three sections deal with making your paper interesting. These three sections include: ââ¬Å"Nothing About Something,â⬠ââ¬Å"Avoid the Obvious Content,â⬠and ââ¬Å"Take the Less Usual Side.â⬠In the First section, ââ¬Å"Nothing About Something,â⬠Roberts goes through the steps a normal student would take in writing a 500-word essay on college football. You may begin shortly after they receive your assignment. Often times you may start well. But after about one paragraph, you run out of things to say. Therefore, you put it off, which causes you to run out of time. Then you find yourself writing your paper at the last possible moment, which makes it dull. Writing your paper at the last possible moment also fills it with unnecessary information, and oversized margins. After reading through these steps many people realize that this is exactly what they do. Robert tells you this paper would, more like than not, earn you a ââ¬Å"D.â⠬ à à à à à The next two sections, ââ¬Å"Avoid the Obvious Contentâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Take the Less Usual Side,â⬠deal with making your paper more interesting. To avoid obvious content do not use the first things that come to mind. The reason for this is because whatever comes to your mind first is what comes to everyone elseââ¬â¢s mind, making it obvious. Once you have decided what not to use, make another list of subjects or reasons. From this list pick the most unusual aspect. Roberts says not only will this be the easiest to write about, but it will also be more interesting. Roberts also advices, ââ¬Å"it is good manners to avoid personality.â⬠By avoiding personality Roberts means donââ¬â¢t write what you think your instructor wants to hear. à à à à à The remaining seven sections deal with word choices. These categories include: ââ¬Å"Slip out of Abstraction,â⬠ââ¬Å"Get Rid of Obvious Padding,â⬠ââ¬Å"Call a Fool a Fool,â⬠ââ¬Å"Beware of Pat Expression,â⬠ââ¬Å"Colorful Words,â⬠ââ¬Å"Colored Words,â⬠and ââ¬Å"Colorless Words.

Reducing Gang Violence
In order to reduce gang violence I would implement community crime prevention programs or strategies targeting changes in community infrastructure, culture, and the physical environment. Furthermore, gang violence will be reduced by executing a diversity ofà approaches includingà neighborhood watch, community policing, urban or physical design, and comprehensive or multi-disciplinary efforts. These strategies may seek to engage residents, community and faith-based organizations, and local government agencies in addressing the factors that contribute to the communityââ¬â¢s crime, delinquency, and disorder.As a means of reaching out to offenders of gang violence I would administer social interventions that would involve a variety of services provided to gang members, such as remedial education, recreational activities (e. g. , softball games involving both gangs), counseling in homes and on the streets, crisis counseling, and referral to drug treatment and mental health services . Employing more community youth workers that would be responsible for reaching out, contacting, and providing a range of limited but intensive services to youth gang members.A form of public education by providing economic and social opportunities through the access of jobs and to job training, as well as educational resources and educating the community by informing them that gang problems result from the interaction of sociological, demographic, economic, and cultural factors along with social instability and lack of economic opportunity. Having more people understand where this stems from can lead to concentrating on assessing the needs of youths and providing them with individualized support services and suppression/control by involving their families, local organizations, and their communities.This program will be based as an extension of the Juvenile Court facilities in Salinas, CA. It will be administered through our cityââ¬â¢s Sherriffââ¬â¢s office and the office of t he Attorney General. It will be paid for by trying to get a cooperative agreement award from the State of California and from donations and fund raisers. The program should include local police officers, probation officers, community youth workers, church groups, boys and girls clubs, and several local residents who work as a team to understand gang structures and provide social intervention and social opportunities whenever possible.The program should reach out to youths unable to connect with legitimate social institutions. Youths at different points in their lives need different things. Older gang members may be ready to secure a legitimate job and need training and education to do so. Younger youths at risk of becoming gang members may need alternative schools or family counseling. The program should provide individualized services for each youth based on his or her needs. This not only consists of surveillance, arrest, probation, and imprisonment to stop violent behavior, but a lso involves greater communication between agency service providers and control providers.All providers jointly decide what happens to a youth when trouble arises or when it is about to. All workers need to work closely with one another and collaborate. Former gang members working as community youth workers need to be given as much respect as police officers in the program.
